Sri Lanka Air Force fighter jets launched air strikes targeting an LTTE recruit training centre in the Oddusuddan area, approximately 20 km Southwest of Mulaithiuvu this morning (July 24), reported the Defence Ministry.
Air Force spokesperson Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara had told defence.lk that the air raids were launched at 7.30 am. He said the targeted camp was located 4km North of Muthuaiyankaddu Tank. The fighter pilots had confirmed that the target was accurately hit, he added.

UNP MP Lakshman Kiriella charged in Parliament that the govt. while rebuffing the ceasefire by the LTTE till July 27, has secretly accepted it and was ready to stop offensives by the security forces.
In reply, Minister Sarath Amunugama said that the govt. has not accepted the Tigers’ offer of a ceasefire and was continuing with the offensives.

SB to enter Parliament? – UNP National Organiser S.B. Dissanayake has reportedly reached agreement with the party leadership to use a recent court verdict and prove that his civic rights have not been suspended. According to the agreement K.N. Choksy would relinquish his National List seat and Dissanayake nominated to fill the vacancy.
Dissanayake has reportedly said that once he took oaths, he would make a speech and resign from Parliament, paving the way for K.N. choksy to be reappointed.
UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe is presently discussing the move with Mr. Choksy, according to sources.

The Foreign Ministers of Japan, China and South Korea are to visit Sri Lanka during the SAARC Summit. According to the Japanese media, Foreign Minister Masahiko Komura is considering visiting Sri Lanka, India and Uzbekistan for eight days from August 1. In Sri Lanka, Komura plans to attend the SAARC summit to be held in Colombo.

The government vehemently denied it has entered into a ceasefire with the LTTE for a duration of the SAARC summit. Ministers Nimal Siripala de Silva and Rohitha Bogollagama said the govt. was not about to give a respite to the Tigers until they downed arms and were willing to talk peace.

Japan provides rice to alleviating food crisis: Japan donated 5,685 tonnes of rice and 110 tonnes of canned fish for distribution among IDPs and the economically affected in the insecure and marginalised areas.
The food items worth 500 million Yen (approximately Rs. 500 million), have arrived in Colombo and will be distributed shortly through the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP).
