Eastern Province elections tommorowLandmark provincial council elections in the Eastern Province will be held tomorrow with vociferous claims of election violence. The ruling coalition and its ally the TMVP- an LTTE splinter group say that the election is a dawn of a new era and will be stepping stone to a resurgent East. However opposition parties remains more pessimistic, they have vehemently condemned the government inability to disarm the TMVP and the alleged misuse of government property for campaigning purposes. The Marxist nationalist JVP remains skeptical of free and fair elections and say that it is just the preliminary exercise in canvassing votes for a general election in 2009, which is why the government has chosen to ally itself with the TMVP. They also allege that the government development projects are a farce and that a sizable portion of funds allocated are pilfered by ministers and officials.
